Selecting Flowers

Pick blooms that are tight and just beginning to open. Be sure to check for firm stems, healthy green leaves, and vibrant petals.

Choosing the Right Vase

Choose a clean vase or other waterproof container that is deep enough and large enough to give your flowers room to breathe and absorb water. Fill the base with fresh, cool water and add a floral preservative.

Arranging Your Flowers

Remove all foliage that might otherwise be covered by water. Using a sharp knife or scissors, cut the stems at a diagonal and place in water immediately.

Caring for your Flowers

Every two or three days, give your flowers a fresh diagonal cut and change the water. Remove any deteriorated foliage. Keep your flowers cool, out of direct sunlight, and do not expose them to drafts or heaters.
